Siolim is a large village, situated along the Chapora river in North Goa, and almost all Goans will know where it is. If you want to locate it on the map (courtesy LP), below, Siolim is just beyond Anjuna on the north coast, and towards the coast from Mapuca. When you reach St. Antony's church in Siolim, take the road going towards Chapora, 100m later you're there! There is some info below on getting to Goa,
Siolim House, History and Amenities
Two hundred and seventy five years of history. An old colonial Goan manor house, one of the very few remaining in the 16-18th century Indo-Portuguese style of the casa de sobrado, which preceeded the casa de patio style. At one time the house belonged to a governor of Macau, and still has the porcelain china grills that the senhor brought from the east. Later on other members of the family were administrators in Portuguese Mozambique, which is where its other name 'Mosmimcar' - The Mozambican, comes from.
If you are looking to spend a holiday in Goa, India Siolim House is now ready to welcome you. Now Goa's newest small luxury "Heritage" Property (India's answer to the Paradors and Relais et Chateaux), Siolim House is a recently restored 300 year old Portuguese era manor house that once belonged to a governor of Macau. Ater an extensive restoration that lasted more than three and a half years, we have have opened Siolim House to welcome discerning guests looking for something other than a 'five star' Goa hotel.
The entire restoration of Siolim House was done with a view to it being a home, and therefore we were very generous in our use of space. In a building that had twenty four rooms there are today only seven suites and seven bathrooms. No necessity was felt to cram rooms in, and so we have spacious public areas and three very large halls! No walls were broken except for the one around the courtyard to open it up. Otherwise one room was made into a bedroom the other into a bathroom and so on.

Converting Siolim House into a hotel de charme came as we realised that that welcoming guests would help us keep Siolim House in perfect shape, and give it the character that comes with welcoming people from all over. That way we also did not have to worry about the Goan monsoon storms that had wreaked so much havoc on the house when we decided to take on the enormous restoration job. During this period, when we used only love and traditional materials, natural stones and marbles, to repair, replace and renovate Siolim House, we also learnt a lot about traditional Goan architecture and the results of 500 years of Goan colonial history. Siolim House retains Goa's traditional cha style, very similar to the pure unfrivolous decoration seen in classic pousadas and quintas throughout Portugal. We hate to call Siolim House any thing but a home, so call it yours while you enjoy your holiday and unwind on nearby beaches, that are among Goa's most wonderful. Once our guests visit nearby Mandrem, Morjim and Ashwem beaches they can never go anywhere else, and Siolim House is hugely fortunate in being located so close to these beaches where you can really feel you own miles of empty beaches. You can also enjoy Goa's alternative culture or see Goa's historical and cultural sights. |

We have now seen many people at Siolim House, and many return as friends. We believe that all have fond memories and feel the time they spent was special. The house has bonded many guests to us, to others and to the house, and for that we are grateful to the stones and plaster that is Siolim House. Who said houses are inanimate! |
