Palolem Beach
Palolem Beach is one of the most Ideal beaches in the western state of Goa and every year it attracts tourists from all over the world.Unlike the northern beaches of Goa, such as Calangute and Baga which are to overcrowded and touristy, Palolem offers the perfect balance of serenity, privacy and nightlife. Palolem is a little slice of heaven and I do not know a single soul who could avoid falling in love with it.
The white sandy beach gently curves round to form a crescent shape while the warm blue waves of the Indian ocean roll in from the open sea. The village which despite the large influx of tourists every year has managed to remain a local and traditional village just with a few added souvenir stalls.
Things to do at Palolem:-
Watch dolphins while eating breakfast? If you are lucky you can watch them from the beach but if not take a trip on a fishing boat, not expensive.
Go exploring.At the far north of the beach is a small island that looks like a set from Jurassic park and is well worth exploring. It is possible to walk at low tide but it is not a long swim.
Help the fishermen..pull in the fishing nets and haul the boats on to the beach. When the locals are bringing in their catch, they're always grateful for a helping hand.
Go for a shave. Indian barbers are highly skilled with a sharp knife and do a fantastic head massage too. Well worth it.
Take a yoga lesson, begin Tai Chi, Chi Qong, Meditation or even Bollywood Dancing. Also comes highly recommended are the Ayvedic massages.
Dance to silent music? Yes, the silent raves take place at various locations throughout the week and are well worth a visit.
Shopping.There are lots of souvenir shops selling some pretty all sorts of things, most notably some pretty cool t-shirts. Of course you can find all the traditional handicrafts from all over India as well.
Go out fishing.Catch a fish and take it to a restaurant for it to be cooked for you, can anything be more satisfying?!
Charter a boat You can charter a traditional fishing boat an sail up the spectacular coastline. Go fishing, drink beer and visit deserted beaches.
Agonda Beach
Enveloped by a large mount to its south, Agonda Beach is a small, striking and sheltered beach located 37knm away from the Goan town of Margao. An ideal place for the holiday makers; who seeks serenity by resting in the lap of Mother Nature. The beach is 3km long and is rather isolated due to its remoteness from the main cities.
Dominated by the forlorn gorgeous bay of white sand that is edged with palm trees and casuarinas, the main attraction of Agonda Beach is Cabo de Rama. The citadel is known as the abode of Lord Rama for 12 long years during his exile. The ambiance of the castle generates a touch of history that that narrates the bygone eras. Cabo De Rama is now the wrecks of a prehistoric citadel that accommodates the gorgeous cathedral of Santo Antonio and presents impressive sights of the sea.
Cabo De Rama Fort
The Cabo De Rama fort located in the Canacona district of Goa is yet another famous fort in India. The fort has an interesting story as to how it derived its name. It is said that Lord Rama of the famous Hindu epic Ramayana took shelter here with his wife Sita. This was during the time when they were banished from the kingdom and were sent on a 14 year long exile in the forests of India. The Cabo De Rama fort of Goa is also known as Cape Rama and is a very old fort which has been located here since ancient times.
The Fort was first occupied by Hindu rulers who spread their empire all over India. The fort has exchanged hands between Hindu, Muslim and Portugal rulers and has seen some of the most gruesome battles fought in history. The Portugal rulers waged battles against the Hindu rulers and established their right over the fort around 1763. It was abandoned when the Portuguese left this place. Later, this fort housed a government prison till 1955 and was abandoned again. Today, this fort is a bit ruined but is a popular tourist attraction.
There is a small chapel inside the fort which is still in use. The white church and the black fort provide a photographic picture of stark contrast. People come here to pray and just enjoy the mystical atmosphere of the fort. Cabo De Rama fort gives a stunning view of the sea from the western side. You can always visit this fort if you are looking for undisturbed peace and serenity. It is a great place to spend some time with oneself and tranquility.
